About FlightScope

FlightScope is a free, ad-free hobby project for people who like watching aeroplanes. It brings together live flight tracking, aircraft-type reference pages, an emergency-squawk watch, an “overhead” view of nearby traffic, and a board of premium-cabin fare deals — all in one place.

Who builds it

FlightScope is written and maintained by Jake McEwen, an aviation enthusiast. It is an independent enthusiast project, not affiliated with any airline, manufacturer, or data provider.

Our mission

To make open aviation data approachable and enjoyable — and to be honest about what the data can and can’t tell you. Nothing here is for operational or navigational use.

Where the data comes from

In plain language:

  • Live positions and traces come from adsb.lol, a community network of volunteers who receive aircraft ADS-B transponder broadcasts.
  • Flight schedules and airframe details (routes, times, registrations, age) come from AeroDataBox.
  • Aircraft photos come from the Planespotters public photo API, credited to the photographer.
  • Fare deals are cached, approximate prices from Travelpayouts — a starting point for research, never a guarantee.
  • Aircraft-type facts and specifications are compiled by hand from public sources.
